Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Trussell earned his master's in humanities and history from California State University, San Francisco, and taught both community college and secondary school for 10 years. He later went on to graduate in the top 10 percent of his class from the Southwestern University School of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate in May 1985.

Mr. Trussell began his legal career with the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office in the Criminal Appeals Division.
